Manchester's ONLY Brewery - We now have 18 beers on tap!

Opening in January 2002 in Manchester’s historic mill yard, Milly’s Tavern is the city’s only brewery. We handcraft our beer on premise using our 15-barrel DME brewing system and use an all-natural brewing process with no pasteurization or chemical preservatives. We use the choicest ingredients in our beers, imported malted barley, hops from the Pacific Northwest and Europe, pure Lake Massabesic water and yeast from around the world. We are proud to offer 12 beers on tap at all times (8 year-around varieties plus a minimum of four seasonal/specialties).You can bring your favorite Milly's beer home or to a party by purchasing one of our Millys Tavern Logo 64 oz Glass Growlers to go. If you are interested in checking out our brewing process, contact us and we would be happy to schedule a time for you to participate.

Our Brewing Process and Beer

Our barley (which can range between 650 and 1300 pounds depending on the beer) is stirred by hand in our mash tun without the use of electric paddles and motors, keeping this a very “handcrafted” process. It’s also removed by hand with hoes and shovels making this a labor of love.

Our brewing system is heated by fire just like in the old world, which adds character to our beers through the caramelizing of sugar in the brew kettle. We age and condition our beers after fermentation to ensure good clarity and to round out the flavors in our beers. We do not pasteurize our beers like many large breweries. Pasteurization kills all living organisms, including yeast, which is rich in vitamins, and it also diminishes the subtle flavors and aromas we’re very proud of.

We are proud to offer our beers off-premise to your establishment and if you ever have any questions about our product or just about beer in general feel contact us.

The Brewery - What's on Tap?

Fisher Cat Ale
This beer is our tribute to lawnmowers, fishing and baseball. It's made with European Pilsner malt, pale straw in color, and is our lightest bodied beer. We hop it mildly with German Hallertau, a traditional noble variety that lends a clean and smooth character to this crowd pleaser.
O.G. 1.036 12 IBUs 3.8% ABV

Mt. Uncanoonuc Golden Cream Ale
This multi award winner is straw colored, light bodied with a slight hint of malt and a balanced hop flavor. We ferment this ale longer and at a colder temperature to give it a crisp, creamy finish.
O.G. 1.040 19 IBUs 4.3% ABV

  • 1997 Great American Beer Festival Bronze Medal
  • 1998 Great American Beer Festival Silver Medal

Amoskeag Harvest Ale

Seasonal & Specialty Brews

Here you'll find a collection of our seasonal & specialty beers

Chocolate Porter
This specialty batch is a slightly new take on an old recipe. For this robust porter, we added 50 pounds of world-famous Van Otis Chocolate to our kettle to produce a decadent dark ale with a clean, chocolate finish. Black and chocolate malts help marry the base malts to the rich chocolate undertone.
OG: 1.060 ABV: 5.9% IBU: 65
Comparable Styles: Longboat Chocolate Porter

Cherry Porter
A classic porter with a twist! A subtleness of cherry blends well with a hint of roasted malt for an incredible aroma. Smooth in the mouth, the cherry flavor rolls over your tongue for an all-around enjoyable experience.
OG: 1.060 ABV: 5.9% IBU: 65
Comparable Styles: Lang Creek Cherry Porter

Coffee Espresso Stout
It's not just for breakfast anymore! We've used 5 gallons of freshly brewed Green Mountain Coffee in this unique coffee confection. Carbonated with nitrogen for a smooth feel, a pint of this will keep you on your toes.
OG: 1.043 ABV: 3.7% IBUs: 27
Comparable Styles: Kona Brewing Co. Pipeline

Zeus's Belgian Wit
Zeus's Belgian Wit is a Belgian-style wheat beer that is unfiltered and pale straw in color. Made with 5 different malts and a blend of spices and citrus peel, it is a flavored ale that is refreshingly crisp with a dry finish. Fermented with Belgian yeast, a subdued fruitiness can be detected in the aroma and flavor.
O.G: 1.0343 ABV: 3.4% IBUs: 19.3
Comparable Styles: Sam Adam's Seasonal White Beer

Burton Ale
A bitter ale harking back to early brewing days in England. British hops are used judiciously throughout to give this ale the traditional earthy/fruity flavor and dry finish of the English midlands. With a slight addition of brown sugar to an astonishingly diverse malt bill, this copper session ale is one to enjoy over and over.
O.G: 1.041 ABV: 4.1% IBUs: 55
Comparable Styles: Bass Ale

Hopzilla
Hopzilla is an Imperial India Pale Ale (Double IPA) that was made with a monstrous amount of hops. Four different American varieties were used which include Chinook, Columbus, Cascade and Centennial. To create a complex aroma and flavor, hops were added as the wort entered the kettle, numerous times throughout the boil and twice during fermentation (dry hopping). While being a very bitter beer, it is pleasingly well balanced and ends with a smooth finish.
OG: 1.085 ABV: 8.1% IBUs: 121+
Comparable Styles: Stone Ruination IPA

New Hampshire Honey Brown
This medium-brown ale is a low alcohol, moderately bitter brown ale. A variety of sweet dark malts are harmoniously blended with 2-row and Pils malts and a conservative hop schedule to deliver a deliciously refreshing and sessionable brown ale.
O.G.: 1.035 ABV: 3.2% IBUs: 41.2
Comparable Styles: JW Dundee's Honeybrown, Mudslinger

Blueberry/Raspberry Lambic
This is an unfiltered, full flavored, Belgian style wheat beer. True to its style, the beer is noticeably sour with a delicate balance of clove and banana ester notes. Brewed with 50% wheat malt, it has a beautiful pale straw color and thick head, yet is light-bodied enough to not be too filling, a specialty beer that aficionados of the style will certainly enjoy.
O.G.: 1:048 ABV: 5.8% IBUs: 12.7
Comparable Styles: Lindeman's Framboise

Milly's Famous Pumpkin Ale

Cask Ales and Firkin Friday

Milly's is proud to announce that we have recently installed our new beer engine which allows us to easily serve cask-conditioned ales. Cask-conditioned ale is an ale which is served fresh, un pasteurized, and unfiltered. The flavor and texture of cask-conditioned ale is quite distinctive; these ales tend to be very creamy and rich, with delicate carbonation and complex flavors.  They are served at a warmer temperature than kegged beer which helps to showcase its flavor and aroma.

Milly's cask ales are conditioned and served in stainless steel firkins which hold 9 imperial gallons.  On *Firkin Fridays*, we will be tapping a new cask ale which will be available throughout the weekend until it's all gone.  Depending on production and consumption, a new cask will be tapped every Friday or other Friday.  Look for Firkin Friday details on our web site and in our email newsletter.

Testimonial

Good afternoon Peter!

I do have to tell you as a home brewer and a micro brew hunter I have never paid so little for a great craft brew!  I joined the mug club because I knew I would not find a better...

  1. A better staff, from the bartenders to the wait staff.  I had only been in NH for less than a week and went to Milly's’s for a beer and was met by all of the above and they had no idea who I was.
  2. Great beers, I can’t tell you how many brew pubs I’ve been to and to find Milly’s with 16 of their own beers on tap.  WOW a beer for every taste.  (I did know of Milly’s but had never gone to central NH before.)
  3. Nice pub menu.  And then as with your beer prices Happy Hour Appetizers! I have tried many items from the menu, from just appetizers to the nightly specials, and never been disappointed.

I do belong to a couple of other mug clubs in CT as that is where I spend my weekends.  I have never seen the selection or the pricing that you have here.  I talk about the “Beat the Clock Tuesdays” at another brewpub in Manchester, CT and they can’t believe it (patrons, staff and management).

Keep on brewing and it is All About The Beer!

John

p.s. Please make sure you make enough money to be around for a long time!
