Manchester's ONLY Brewery - We now have 16 beers on tap!

Opening in January 2002 in Manchester’s historic mill yard, Milly’s Tavern is the city’s only brewery. We handcraft our beer on premise using our 15-barrel DME brewing system and use an all-natural brewing process with no pasteurization or chemical preservatives. We use the choicest ingredients in our beers, imported malted barley, hops from the Pacific Northwest and Europe, pure Lake Massabesic water and yeast from around the world. We are proud to offer 12 beers on tap at all times (8 year-around varieties plus 4 seasonal/specialties).You can bring your favorite Milly's beer home or to a party by purchasing one of our 64 oz Glass Growlers to go. If you are interested in checking out our brewing process, contact us and we would be happy to schedule a time for you to participate.

Our Brewing Process and Beer

Our barley (which can range between 650 and 1300 pounds depending on the beer) is stirred by hand in our mash tun without the use of electric paddles and motors, keeping this a very “handcrafted” process. It’s also removed by hand with hoes and shovels making this a labor of love.

Our brewing system is heated by fire just like in the old world, which adds character to our beers through the caramelizing of sugar in the brew kettle. We age and condition our beers after fermentation to ensure good clarity and to round out the flavors in our beers. We do not pasteurize our beers like many large breweries. Pasteurization kills all living organisms, including yeast, which is rich in vitamins, and it also diminishes the subtle flavors and aromas we’re very proud of.

We are proud to offer our beers off-premise to your establishment and if you ever have any questions about our product or just about beer in general feel contact us.

Shark Bite Summer Ale
This American wheat ale is crisp and refreshing for that hot summer day. Shark Bite Summer Ale is brewed using over 50% wheat malt, noble German Hallertauer Mittelfruh hops, lemon peel and Melegueta pepper, an ancient brewing spice used by medieval brewers. Melegueta pepper is an aromatic spice related to ginger that has a spicy, peppery flavor with a hint of jasmine, hazelnut and citrus. This, blended with lemon peel, helps give Shark Bite Summer Ale its unique crisp and spicy flavor and body. Sit back and cool off with a Shark Bite!
OG: 1.053 ABV: 6.4% IBU: 10.9

Hillsborough Hefeweizen
This is an unfiltered, full-flavored, German-style wheat beer with a nice balance of clove and banana esters. Made with 50% wheat malt, it has a beautiful pale straw color and thick head but is light enough in body to not be too filling.

Mybock Yourbock
Maibock's are German-style lagers that are paler versions of bock beers and were brewed to be released in May, the early days of spring. Mybock Yourbock is copper in color with a rich malt backbone and very subtle hop flavor. A large percentage of dark Munich malt was added to German Pilsner to enhance the maltiness and give it an assertive flavor. It was fermented with with two types of German lager yeast to add another layer of complexity to this delicious beer.
OG: 1.072 ABV: 7.6% IBUs: 29.9

Otto Altbier
Otto, a Düsseldorf Altbier.  This beer was inspired by a trip to Düsseldorf's altstadt (old town) when I was a student studying brewing at Doemen's Academy in Munich.  The altstadt has several fantastic brewpubs that produce some of the most wonderful tasting alts that I've ever tasted.  Trying to be true to these beers, I brewed Otto with several German malts, a healthy dose of German Magnum and Tettnang hops and fermented with German yeast.  The end result is a full flavored ale with a complex malt flavors and an assertive hop bitterness.
OG: 1.010 ABV%: 5.3 IBU:  44

Lil' Ivan's Foreign Extra Stout
Brewed in the style of a tropical stout, Lil' Ivan is a dark, moderately strong roasty ale.  Originally brewed for tropical markets, it is sweeter than a dry stout, and has a complex aroma of roasted grains and dried fruits.  While medium-full bodied, Lil' Ivan is not excessively high in alcohol allowing for the enjoyment of multiple glasses.
ABV: 6.2%

Manchester Mild
Manchester Mild is an unfiltered English-style brown ale that is light in alcohol but full in malt flavor.  Brewed with over four different caramel malts, a hint of dark roast, East Kent Goldings hops and fermented with a London ale yeast.

These ingredients all work in harmony to create a flavorful "light-beer" that is not widely available on this side of the Atlantic.  Known in the craft beer industry as a "session beer", it is refreshing, yet flavorful and is readily suited to drinking in quantity (during a single session).
OG:  1.039  ABV:  3.7%   IBU:  15.7 (Low/Mild bitterness)

Pumpkin Ale
This is one of our most popular beers.  Brewed with fresh New Hampshire grown pumpkins and lightly spiced.  Try it on its own, or with your glass rimmed with our house blend of sugar and spices.  Get this one fast, before it's all gone!

Cask Ales and Firkin Friday

Milly's is proud to announce that we have recently installed our new beer engine which allows us to easily serve cask-conditioned ales. Cask-conditioned ale is an ale which is served fresh, unpasteurized, and unfiltered. The flavor and texture of cask-conditioned ale is quite distinctive; these ales tend to be very creamy and rich, with delicate carbonation and complex flavors.  They are served at a warmer temperature than kegged beer whichhelps to showcase its flavor and aroma.

Milly's cask ales are conditioned and served in stainless steel firkins which hold 9 imperial gallons.  On *Firkin Fridays*, we will be tapping a new cask ale which will be available throughout the weekend until it's all gone.  Depending on production and consumption, a new cask will be tapped every Friday or other Friday.  Look for Firkin Friday details on our website and in our email newsletter.

Cask Ale Now on Tap: Fisher Cat, dry hopped with Czech Saaz

Testimonial

Good afternoon Peter!

I do have to tell you as a home brewer and a micro brew hunter I have never paid so little for a great craft brew!  I joined the mug club because I knew I would not find a better...

  1. A better staff, from the bartenders to the wait staff.  I had only been in NH for less than a week and went to Milly’s for a beer and was met by all of the above and they had no idea who I was.
  2. Great beers, I can’t tell you how many brew pubs I’ve been to and to find Milly’s with 16 of their own beers on tap.  WOW a beer for every taste.  (I did know of Milly’s but had never gone to central NH before.)
  3. Nice pub menu.  And then as with your beer prices Happy Hour Appetizers! I have tried many items from the menu, from just appetizers to the nightly specials, and never been disappointed.

I do belong to a couple of other mug clubs in CT as that is where I spend my weekends.  I have never seen the selection or the pricing that you have here.  I talk about the “Beat the Clock Tuesdays” at another brewpub in Manchester, CT and they can’t believe it (patrons, staff and management).

Keep on brewing and it is All About The Beer!

John

p.s. Please make sure you make enough money to be around for a long time!
